ABOUT THE CLUB

Welcome to the official Comecon Football Club Website.

Comecon Football Club was officially founded in 2003 by a group of University of Liverpool students. Prior to igraduation many of Comecon FC’s players competed in the Liverpool University Inter-departmental Leagues, before in 2007, when the core of the players graduated a new era was to begin.

Originally formed predominantly with players from the University's Finance and Management Schools, Comecon FC grew to encompass graduates from all three of Liverpool's universities, as well as players from the local areas.

In early 2007 an application was made to the Cheshire County F.A. and a place in Houlihan's Birkenhead Sunday League Division 3 was awarded to the fledgling club.

Initially Comecon found the step up in class and more competitive football difficult losing many games in its first three seasons, ending each campaign in mid-table obscurity. A cup campaign cut short at the semi-final stage was unfortunately all the club had to show for its efforts in those early campaigns.

In 2009 with an increasing dedication and new management structure Comecon reached the Final of the Birkenhead Groundwork cup, eventually finishing as runners up. More significantly Comecon FC ended the league campaign as champions (losing just 2 games over the season) and securing promotion into Houlihan's Birkenhead Sunday League Division 2. The entire season can be viewed as an excellent achievement for all concerned.

As of 2010 Comecon FC has expanded due to the high demand from local footballers to join the exemplary club, and at the AGM in June 2010 the Committee made the decision to extend the number of football teams. For the upcoming 2010/11 season there will be two teams competing under the Comecon FC brand;

Comecon 1ST XI - Houlihan's Birkenhead Sunday League Division 2

Comecon 2ND XI - Houlihan's Birkenhead Sunday League Division 3
